Porque um par de calções só dura meio dia e como quem faz um faz dois, ou três… cortei, cortei, cosi, cosi e fui alargando o stock de calções do meu rapazinho mais velho, que bem precisava.

Fiz um molde que lhe assenta muito bem e fui fazendo umas variações, apliquei bolsos e até me aventurei nos calções de banho, mas isso é outro post.

Because a pair of shorts only lasts half a day and because if you make one you can make two, or three... I cutted and sew enlarging my sweet big boy's shorts collection. 

I made a pattern that fitted him well (and this is the difficult, time-consuming, tricky part of cloth making) and went on making some variations, adding pockets, top stitching here and there... I even dared sewing some swimming trunks, but that is a whole new post!

Produção para consumo interno / For internal use

As crianças adoram sujar-se, e a mãe gosta que os rapazes andem à vontade e que se sujem se isso for sinónimo de muita brincadeira ao ar livre! Para o rapaz mais velho cá de casa, que estava com o guarda roupa muito desfalcado (cresce rápido!!!), meti mãos à obra e comecei a fazer roupa. Não tenho grande confiança a trabalhar com malhas, por isso as t-shirts são todas de compra, já com calções eu posso bem! Aproveitei um vale de 25$ da Fabric.com que ganhei numa giveaway e encomendei um tecido com o qual queria trabalhar há algum tempo: “seersucker” (não sei o nome em português). 

O tecido, 100% algodão, é muito macio e maleável e pela primeira vez arrisquei fazer bolsos. Gosto do resultado e o novo dono também ficou satisfeito! Aproveitei e fiz ainda uns calções para o pequenino, que isto do “treino do bacio” resulta em muita roupa suja!

 

 Kids love to get dirty and mommy here like her boys to be confortable and get dirty as long as it means lots of outside playing! The older boy had some serious lack of clothing in his wardrobe (they grow uo really quick!!) and so I started planning some homemade clothing. I haven´t dared working with knits yet, so t-shirts were all bought but I can manage to sew some shorts. I used a Fabric.com 25$ cupon I earned at a giveaway and ordered some seersucker, which I wanted to get my hands on for a while. Seersucker is 100% cotton and very soft and comfy and it was really easy to work with. For the first time I tryed making pockets and although a bit small they worked pretty well. I was very happy with the final result and decided to make an extra pair for my little guy (this potty trainning stage demands a lot of bottoms!)

P.S. I am pretty sure it was not wednesday (as the socks state) and I would also like to disclaim: Lego doesn´t pay me for showing of their products in my pictures ;)

De volta / Back from summer

Não é que o Verão tenha mesmo chegado por estes lados, mas enfim, estamos de volta, pelo menos do mês de Agosto. Apesar da falta de posts, no mês de Agosto ainda tive oportunidade de me dedicar à costura. Nos próximos dias vou mostrar o que por cá se fez! Até lá

I can't really say Summer has arrived this year, but we are back, at least from August. Although not posting a lot (or should I say, not posting at all!), I still had some time with the sewing machine. During the next days I will be sharing with you what I was up to.

Par de mochilas / Couple of backpacks

Um pedido especial, um par de mochila/toalha para o menino e para a menina, já crescidos. Nem sempre consigo fazer coisas para gente crescida. Como já devem ter reparado aqui no blog, a grande maioria do que faço é para as crianças. Talvez porque posso "ir à loucura" com as cores, ou simplesmente porque me dou melhor com os padrões infantis. Assim, quando me pediram 2 mochila-toalha para crescidos tive alguma dificuldade em escolher os tecidos apropriados.

 

Para ela e porque a toalha era em tons de rosa, uma mochila com tecido fúcsia e um bolso a toda a largura da mochila em amarelo. Para ele, uma mochila em ganga escura, muito sóbria e discreta. Gostei do desafio e mais importante, os "clientes" gostaram do resultado!

 I had a special order, two beach towels / backpacks for a couple. I am not always very confortable with doing stuff for grownups. As you may have noticed I usually do kids stuff. I don't know if it is because I can "go crazy" on the colors of simply because I love kids patterns. So when I was asked to do two adults backpacks I had some trouble with choosing the fabrics.

Finally I went with fuchsia (I am not sure about the spelling, but its the kind-of-pink-color you see above) with a big yellow striped pocked for her and a plain, sober dark denim for him. I really enjoyed the challenge and most important, I made two happy "costumers"!

French seams - how to

Não sei como se traduz esta expressão, "costuras francesas"? Bem, não me parece muito importante. O que me aprece importante é o fabuloso tutorial que encontrei aqui. A Toni fez um excelente trabalho e é uma forma muito "limpa" de terminar uma peça. Tenho a certeza que o vou utilizar em breve. Aqui fica o vídeo.
