Mais um trabalhinho feito durante as férias, cheio de cor! Para um menino que está a começar a andar, que é lindo de morrer e que por acaso até é meu afilhado...

Another set of anti-slipper child shoes, bursting with colour that I made during this summer! For a little boy who isn´t 1 years old yet but is so willing to start walking, who is so adorable and so happens to be my godson :)

Opinião / Request

Preciso urgentemente de uma opinião. Estou a fazer uma mantinha para um bebé nasce lá para Dezembro. O exterior tinha que ser todo em algodão, pelo que optei pelo novo padrão da Riley Blake designs, Alphabet soup, para a parte de cima e uma flanela verde água para a parte de baixo. Para encher usei duas camadas de malha polar. Com todas estas camadas tive que fazer uma espécie de quilt. O que me está agora a incomodar é como vou unir todas as camadas. Eu tinha pensado usar o tecido verde da mesma colecção para fazer a minha própria fita de viés, mas o meu marido diz que o tecido é pouco infantil e sugeriu usar a fita verde forte. Qual é a vossa opinião, qual das opções abaixo gostam mais?

I need your opinion urgentely. I am making a blanket for a baby due in December. The exterior had to be all cotton fabric so I chose the new Alphabet soup from Riley Blake designs for the top and a cozy light green flannel for the back. Inside I used two layers of polar fleece. With all this layers I had to do some sort of quilt (I have never quilted, but it was the only way I could find to put everything together). Now what is bothering me is how will I bind this. I was thinking about making my own bias tape with the coordinating fabric from the same collection, but my husband claims it is not a child pattern and the lime bias tape would look better. So, could you let me know what do you think? Which of the above combinations you like more?

Gémeas / Twin set

 

Para um par de meninas gémeas que faziam um ano, pediram-me para lhes fazer uma prendinha. Sugeri logo um vestidinho e um chapéu para cada uma. Isto foi pouco depois de postar aqui o tutorial de como fazer "costuras francesas" e vi logo a minha oportunidade para as testar! Mas a pessoa que fez o pedido tinha alguns requisitos: a mãe das meninas veste sempre uma de rosa e outra de azul: confere! tinha tecidos para isso.

Havia ainda uma surpresa: vestidinhos iguais aos das meninas mas para dois ratinhos de peluche. As orelhas dos ratinhos também foram cobertas com tecido, pois o original tinha flores que não combinavam em nada com o resto.

 

Sem dúvida que as french seams dão um ar muito "limpo" ao produto final e são tão fáceis de fazer! O único senão é o tempo que se gasta e notem que eu não escrevi perde, porque tendo em conta o resultado final o tempo não é mesmo perdido!

 

Nos chapéus o tecido principal foi colocado no interior para não exageram muito nos padrões.

Cosi à mão como há muito não cosia, mas o resultado é simplesmente adorável.

I was asked to make a gift for a set of twin girls that were about to turn one. I immediately suggested a dress and matching hat for each.  

This was just after I posted the  french seams tutorial and I saw my chance to try these beauties! But the request had some special itens: the mother of the girls always dresses one in pink and the other in blue, fortunately I had fabrics to fulfill that requirement.

 

There was also another surprise: dresses similar to the girls' but for two softie mice. 

The ears of the little mice were also coevred with matching fabric because the original one was a flower pattern that was completely out of the color scheeme.

I love the finishing touch the french seams give to a garment, so clean! and so easy to make! The only not so good thing I can name about these is that they are time consuming. Considering the final result I believe it is time well used.

The hats were lined with the main fabric.

I don´t remember the last time I sewed so much by hand, but I must say I am really happy with the result, I find it adorable.

Compras / Shopping

 

Fui às compras... e vim carregadinha! Fui a uma loja não muito perto de casa, mas que tem uma colecção incrível de tecidos. É uma loja com três pisos e mais de 1300m2, de uma total desorganização. Tive que levantar vários rolos de tecido para perceber o que havia em cada prateleira (tenho pena de não ter tirado uma foto). Não se encontram muitos tecidos de designers americanos, mas tecidos baratos, básicos capazes de engrossar o nosso stock, desses há lá tantos que até cansa.

 Fitas de viés: 0,30€ / m a fita lisa, 0,35€ / m as fita xadrêss azul e vermelha, a mais larga não me lembro quanto custou. A fita de viés azul com uma risca verde foi mais cara, mas foi comprada noutra loja.

 Dois tecidos de algodão, a pensar nuns projectos para a casa.

Riscas! Gosto. Em algodão, o da direita com um toque de linho (foi o que disse a senhora da loja, eu nem sei bem o que isso quer dizer exactamente). A pensar nos meus rapazes

 Estas toalhas foram compradas ao quilo; devem ter custado menos de 0,50€ cada uma. São iguais e têm um lado (o das riscas fininhas) que parece veludo. Estas trouxe-as para testar um roupão de banho para um rapaz pequenino.
Ainda trouxe mais um toalhão de banho (4,0€, um turco de excelente qualidade), que planeio usar para fazer uma toalha com capuz. Finalmente, encontrei um "retalho" de quase 2m de uma ganga pré-lavada tão macia que parece pele de pêssego e que custou apenas 5,0€.
Claramente estou aqui a tentar justificar as minhas compras com projectos que tenho em mente, mas admito que muitos dos tecidos que compro não têm qualquer justificação, apenas a mais vã delas todas: ADORO!

Então, o que acham das minhas compras?

So I went shopping... and I returned with my hands full. I went to a huge 1300 square meter store, not so close to my place, that has an amazing collection of fabrics. It is a totally disorganized store, where I had to lift several bolts of fabric to figure out what is in each shelf (I regret to havving a picture, sorry), but it is totally worth it! It doesn´t have any designer fabric, but has lots of basics great for stash building!

 I also bought lots of trims, thinking about Christmas presents for the little ones

 The dear white thread, for every purpose.

 Lots of bias tape, the solid one for just 0,30€ / meter!

 I found a cut of pre-washed denim, 2 meters, so soft it feels like peach skin, for only 5,0€.

And I also bought home some terry cloth (4,0 € per 1 meter towel) for a hooded towel, two small terry cloth towels (about 50 cents each) I am planning to make a bath robe for a little fellow, two cotton fabrics with blue stripes with my little boys in mind, and some green gingham and black and white plka dot for some home projects.
I am clearly trying to justify my fabric / notions shopping with projects in mind, but I have to admit that I buy some fabrics without any real explanation besides the most vain one: I love them!


So what do you think about my shopping? What to join me the next time?

Toalha-mochila / Backpack

Mais um pedido, desta vez da Gabi, para oferecer a uma menina de 2 anos. Coloquei um bolso exterior para acrescentar um pouco de espaço (é para um raparigo, certo?). Definitivamente, estas pequenas mochilas fizeram sucesso. São tão fáceis de fazer! E todos os miúdos deviam ter uma! Adorava ter a capacidade fotográfica para apresentar aqui um passo-a-passo. Qual é a vossa opinião? Gostavam de ver aqui um tutorial com molde incluído mesmo que a fotografia fosse fraquinha?

 

This time it was Gabi who asked me for a towel/backpack for a 2 years old girl. II added an ouside pocket to edd some more room (it is for a girl, right?). These backpack were a huge sucess this summer. They are so easy to make that every kid should have one! I would love to know enough photography to make a tutorial for you. What do you think? Would you like to se a tutorial + pattern even though with poor photography?

Mala praia / Beach bag

 

Em tempo de férias (as que já passaram, claro), a minha cunhada pediu-me uma mala para levar duas toalhas de praia, de adulto e onde coubesse mais alguma coisinha. Tinha cá em casa um tecido do IKEA que comprei a 2€ / metro (grande saldo). Para além de achar que o tecido é giríssimo, tem qualquer coisa nele que grita verão (talvez seja o amarelo!!). Foi a segunda tentativa de fazer algo parecido com uma mala e desta vez consegui fazer um saco enorme (por oposição à micro mala que fiz para mim...)

 Desalinhei as riscas na costura central e coloquei um grande bolso com velcro no interior. Resultado final: gosto, muito! Tivesse eu tempo e fazia também um para mim.

 During my vacations (the one already gone, of course), I was asked to make a bag big enough to carry two grown up beach towels and a few other things. I had some IKEA fabric I bought for 2€ / meter (huge clearance sale). I love this fabric, I think it is adorable, happy and it has something in it that screams summer (maybe because it is yellow!!). 

It was my second attempt to make something-like-a-bag and this time I manage to make a huge tote bag (as opposed to the tiny bag I made for myself...). I mismatched the stripes on the central seam and sewn an inside pocket with velcro closure. End result: like it, a lot! If I had time I would definitely make me on too.
