Chapéus / Hats

Com a chegada da Primavera chega a época dos chapéus, acessório por excelência para meninos e meninas. Se no ano passado os meus chapéus deixavam muito a desejar, este ano consegui "afinar" o molde e fazer uns chapéus bem giros. Reversíveis para dobrar as possibilidades de empinocar os garotos! (Nunca pensei que a palavra "empinocar" existisse, mas a verdade é que o corrector automático não se queixou, já em relação à palavra "reversíveis"... diz que não conhece).

 

Experimentei vários acabamentos, pontos a direito, zig-zag, fitas e rendas. A parte difícil é escolher um favorito! E com tanta experimentação já tenho chapéus para as crianças todas das redondezas!

Spring is just around the corner and this means: hat season is starting. Hats are great accessories for boys and girls and a good way to show off some designer fabric. Last year my hats where not so good, I struggled for some months to get it right but never did. After "tunning" my parttern is finally ok and my hats come out pretty cool. I make them reversible to double the possibilities of show off!

 

I tried different ways of finishing the hat: top stitch, zig zag all around the brim, some grosgrain ribbon and even some lace. The hard part is to choose a favourite! At this moment and after all the experiments I have done I believe I can cover the head of each child in our neighborhood

O meu garoto mais novo adorou a nova mochila e não a largou nem para ir dormir. É bastante recompensador, não? Caroline is such a fantastic girl that she has all the tutorials tested. And today I was the happy tester of this amazing toddler backpack from Indietutes. A very well written tutorial with nice tips along the way. The most time consuming part (for me) was interfacing the pattern pieces. After that it all came together in 15-20 minutes. How about this for a quick naptime project? My toddler loved it and even went to sleep with it. How is that for rewarding? On the last few days...

Tenho andado com muito trabalho e infelizmente não anda a correr tão bem como eu tinha planeado. Quando se trabalha com animais vivos nem sempre podemos fazer muitas previsões ou ter grandes expectativas. Não aconteceu nada de grave, apenas o suficiente para me alterar os planos. Como eu planeio o meu tempo ao milímetro isto é mais do que razão para me estragar a semana! Ando desorientada e nem a máquina de costura tem conseguido organizar-me as ideias. Com falta de tempo, de plano e muito sono, hoje deixo-vos com um trabalho do ano que passou. A Ann Kelle é sem dúvida uma das minhas designers favoritas!Estes dinossauros são giríssimos.

I have been working a lot lately and unfortunately not everything is going as planned. When you work with live animals it isn't always easy to make many predictions and to have high expectations. Not that anything too serious happened, just enough to alter my plans. Has I am a planning freak, these past events are more than enough to ruin my week. I am disoriented and not even the sewing machine has been able to settle my spirit. With little time, little plan and a ton of sleep, today I will just post something from last year. Ann Kelle is definitely one of my favourite designers at the moment. How cute are these dinos!

Amor de Galo

Com a Primavera a chegar e sobretudo com as férias da Páscoa mais para cá do que para lá, dediquei-me à causa e produzi muuuito para a Amor de Galo. Isto de ter trabalho a tempo inteiro e filhos faz com que esta pequena produção me demore dias e dias. No fim, vale sempre a pena :)

With the Spring just around the corner and Easter following just behind, I made a big batch of goodies to exhibit at Amor de Galo. Having a full-time job and kids makes this small production an endless task. In the end, it's all worth it :)

Mais do mesmo para alguns, mais tesouros para mim. De cada vez que chega um destes pacotes fico com um sorriso de orelha a orelha!

Same old, same old for some, but treasures for me. Everytime a new package arrives I put a huge smile on my face!

Kickin Back Sweats #2

Porque cá em casa somos muito democráticos e principalmente não queremos chatices, fiz estas calças para o meu rapaz mais velho, a partir do molde "Kickin' back sweats" do livro Sewing for boys.
Because here we are very democratic and above all things we want to keep the peace. after these I made another pair, this time for the older boy. I used the same pattern: "Kickin back sweats" pattern from the book Sewing for boys. I traced the size 6/7 years.

Usei ganga uma ganga muito suave mas com alguma grossura para poder ser usada nesta época de inverno. Como o rapaz já é muito crescido usei um tecido que acho giríssimo para rapaz mas que ao mesmo tempo mantém alguma sobriedade. Chama-se Shipyard, sei que é 100% algodão orgânico, mas neste momento não me ocorre de quem é. 

I used a very soft and cozy denim so it is confortable and still warm for winter days. I picked this fabric called Shipyard that is 100% organic cotton but at the moment I don't recal the designer or manufacturer! This fabric is cute for older boys as it has nice details but keeps some sobriety.

Novamente coloquei bolsos que não estavam previstos no molde original mas que são cruciais para uma criança de 6 anos que ainda por cima tem a mania que é coleccionador de pedras e paus.
I added some patch pockets on top and on the sides. For a 6 year old boy these are of crucial importance, specially when that boy keeps a collection of stones and sticks at home!

Usei ainda a opção que o molde tinha de fazer uma falsa braguilha, embora não seja muito visível.
I also used the faux fly option because I think it gives the whole thing a more professional look.

Também aqui adicionei uma barra no fundo das pernas para fazer as calças "crescerem" com o garoto. Estas sim, vão durar mais um ano!
To finish the legs I sew a cuf that will extend the lifetime of the garment.
 

Em relação a este molde tenho a dizer que é super simples e se faz em menos de nada. Pode ser "complicado" de várias formas por quem tiver essa vontade, na realidade é um excelente básico e a imaginação é o limite para o que se pode fazer com ele. Podem ver mais formas de o embelezar aqui. E porque não visitar o Boy Oh, Boy, Oh, Boy e acompanhar o "Sew along" que acontece todos os meses?
