Little Heartbreaker Pants - Sew Along July

Para o Sew along deste mês a Stacey escolheu as "Little Heartbreaker Pants. Estas calças têm bolsos, cintura elástica ajustável e um acabamento na bainha das calças que eu gosto muito. Tal como todos os projectos que tenho feito deste livro também este é simplesmente fácil!

A imagem que o livro mostra para ilustrar estas calças, confesso, não apelaram muito ao meu gosto, mas como queria participar no Sew Along do mês de Julho, fiz apenas um par de calças, para o mais pequenino (T 2/3), porque é sempre com ele que eu arrisco mais (é mais novo, não se queixa tanto e à excepção das cuecas do homem aranha ainda não tem grandes exigências na hora de vestir!).

Como pelas imagens tinha dado para perceber que estas calças têm um corte largo e ainda por cima têm 2 pregas na frente, optei por usar um tecido de linho que tinha em casa. É bastante macio, maleável e fresco e apesar do meu medo, não foi assim tão difícil de trabalhar com ele.

A verdade é que estas são umas calças com acabamentos muito bons e eu admito que neste momento gosto muito delas. Acho que o facto de as ter feito em linho lhe dão um ar super descontraído e são ideais para o Verão. Já estou a pensar fazer umas semelhantes para o mais velho. Haja tempo, que vontade e tecidos tenho eu!

For this month's sew along Stacey chose the Little Heartbreaker Pants. This pants have pockets, elastic adjustable waistband and leg cuffs that I really enjoy. Like all other projects I have made from this book this one is also easy peasy!

I confess I didn't like the image that ilustrates the Little Heartbreaker Pants that much, but I really wanted to participate in the Sew Along so I played safe. I chose to make a size 2-3 because I always feel more confortable taking risks with the little boy from the house (despite the Spiderman briefs he is not very demanding when it's time to get dressed!).

I realized this pants would be a little wide, so I chose some striped linen fabric I had around here. It is a very soft, light and breathable fabric and despite my fear of working with it, it sew beautifully. 

Truth be told, this pants have great finishing details and at this point i really LOVE them. The linen fabric give the pants a very relaxed look, perfect for summer. Let there be time and I will make another pair for the older boy!

Sewing for boys Sew Along - June

Para o Sew along deste mês a Stacey escolheu um dos projectos que mais medo me metia (sim, metia!). A Henry Shirt, cheia de detalhes deliciosos, mas que eu temia pela sua dificuldade. Claro está que era medo infundado, tudo que este livro apresenta é simplesmente fácil! Eu fiz duas camisas, uma para cada rapaz. Passei o dia todo antes de voar para Oslo agarrada à camisa do mais velho, mas valeu a pena!

 Nestas coisas eu tenho sempre medo de errar, fazer as camisas demasiado fantasiosas e convenhamos que o mais velho já vai entrar para a escola primária e não vai poder andar sempre com roupa cheia de bonecada. Mas enquanto ele deixar, eu faço destas coisas!

A camisa do mais pequenino é o tamanho 2/3 do livro. Como ele é barrigudinho fica-lhe bem. Usei os tecidos da colleccão Back Yard Baby, de Patty Sloniger, vencedora do concurso Project Selvage e fabricado por Michael Miller. É algodão orgânico com um toque super suave e é um pouco mais fino do que o convencional algodão para patchwork (mas não sei porquê). Usei o Windy day para o "corpo", e o Snake Skin em cinzento para a peça lateral. Acho que a combinação ficou giríssima, mas fico a aguardar as vossas opiniões.
 

Para o maior usei o tamanho 6/7 que estando bem em comprimento, é um pouco largo pois o rapaz é esticadinho! Como a camisa tinha muitas peças nem me atrevi a tentar alterar o molde. Tendo em conta a inspiracão retro da camisa acho que até não fica muito mal, o pior é mesmo no pescoço onde fica a nadar. Talvez tenha que por uma mola extra, mais perto do colarinho. Para esta camisa usei tecidos da colecção Robot Factory de Caleb Grey para Robert Kaufman. Já tinha usado a versão laranja deste padrão para o sew along de Maio. Agora optei pelo verde com robots em branco combinado com o azul com as rodas dentadas. Apesar de tudo ao longe até fica discreto, parece uma simples camisa aos quadrados, pois os desenhos estão sobre uma base quadriculada e não são muito evidentes.

I was running on a really tight schedule, but I did it! I left Portugal on the 14th of June but was able to finish the challenge before coming to Norway, Wee! 



For this month's sew along Stacey chose a project that scared me the most (yes it did!). The Henry Shirt is full of delightful details, but I was kind of scared to get my hand on one of those. It is clear now that the fear was unfounded, everything in this book (so far) is just easy peasy! I made two shirts, one for each boy. I spent the whole day before flying to Oslo woking on the shirt for the older boy!  

With the boys clothes I am always affraid of going too far. The oldest is about to start primary school and will not be able to always wear crazy patterns shirts. But, while he doesn't mind I will make him these things!

The shirt for the little guy is a size 2/3. As he still has the cutest round belly, it fits him just great. I used fabrics in the collection Back Yard Baby from Patty Sloniger, winner of Project Selvage and manufactured by Michael Miller. It is organic cotton with a super soft touch and slightly thinner than the conventional quilting cotton (though I have no idea why). I used Windy Day for the main piece, and Snake Skin in gray for the side panels. I think the combo turned out sooo cute, but I look forward to hearing from you.

For the older boy I used a size 6/7 which is ok in length, althoug it is a little wide! As the shirt had so many pieces I didn't dare try to change the pattern. Given the retro inspired vibe the shirt has, I think that is not that bad, the worst is around the neck.. Maybe I have to add another button closer the collar. I used fabrics from the collection of Caleb Grey Robot Factory for Robert Kaufman. I already used the orange version of this pattern in May sew along. Now I chose the green with white robots combined with the gears in blue. The shirt turned out quite discreet which made me very happy. I like it, how about you?

 

Sewing for boys Sew Along - May

Mais um mês que se passou e desta vez consegui terminar os projectos a tempo de participar no Sew Along da Stacey . No mês de Maio haviam duas opções: o Mimi's suspender shorts ou o Hold 'em Up Belt + Going Fishing Hat. Como os calções vão só até ao tamanho 4/5 decidi-me pela segunda opção. Estes são mais dois projectos do livro Sewing for Boys tão fáceis quanto giros e acima de tudo indispensáveis em qualquer guarda-roupa de rapaz!

 Another month as passed by and this time I was able to complete the projects in time! It's the last day of the month, but it's still May, right? For this month's sew along Stacey chose 3 patterns. You could either do the Mimi's suspender shorts, which goes only to 4/5 or the Hold 'em up Belt plus the Going Fishing Hat. As I couldn't do the Suspender shorts for my older boy, I went with the accessories choice. These are two projects from the book Sewing for Boys that are as easy as beautiful. Belts and Hats are indispensable  in every boys wardrobe. 

Usei o mesmo tecido em ambas as peças: algodão orgânico da colecção  Robot Fabric de Caleb Grey.


I used the same fabric on both items: organic cotton from the collection Robot Fabric of Caleb Grey. 

Adicionei linhas de  pontos paralelas a todo o comprimento to cinto. Gosto do resultado e fica com mais estrutura.

I added some parallel rows of stitches on all the lenght of the belt and I think they look great!

O chapéu foi feito com costuras internas e reversível. Gosto do facto de ser reversível, mas acho que fiz asneira em não seguir as directrizes das autoras do livro para deixar as costuras expostas. Assim, deixou de ser um Going Fishing Hat cheio de carácter para ser apenas mais um chapéu... Aprendi a lição, não andar a inventar muito nos moldes de quem sabe, a Shelly e a Karen!

The hat I made with inside seams and reversible. I like the fact that it's reversible, but I think that the fact that I didn't follow the guidelines to leave the seams exposed makes it loose character. This way it is no longer a Going Fising Hat, just an ordinary bucket hat... Lesson Learned: Shelly and Karen know their business, don't mess up with their patterns!

 

Sewing for Boys –Sew Along (Late April)

Passou-se a semana, chegou o fim-de-semana e passaram-se mais 3 semanas entretanto… Eu (ainda) não me esqueci que tenho este cantinho, mas nem sempre o trabalho permite que eu me dedique a costurar e a vir aqui mostrar o que tenho feito. Por essa mesma razão, tenho só costurado!

 Hoje venho aqui apresentar um projecto que fiz ainda em Abril, as "Treasure Pocket Pants", para participar no Sewing for boys Sew Along do blog Boy, Oh, Boy, Oh boy!, mas que não tive oportunidade de fotografar e por isso a minha participação ficou de fora. 

Mesmo assim, dediquei-me à causa e fiz umas calças para o rapaz mais velho, a partir de umas calças minhas, quase novas que rasgaram mesmo por baixo do rabo e umas calças que uma amiga me deu, também elas quase novas e rasgadas no rabo (o que dizer disto?!?).

Lá desenhei o molde, cortei as peças e quando estava a coser apercebi-me que uma das peças estava errada… fui pesquisar e descobri que há uma errata para o Sewing for Boys, que teria sido muito útil ANTES de cortar as calças. Mas o dano não foi muito, aconteceu apenas que tive que as fazer mais estreitas, o que tendo em conta a elegância do meu rapaz até dá jeito!

The week went by, the weekend came and it took me 3 more weeks to come here again... but I (still) have not forgotten this little place in the www, but work doesn’t always allow me to sew and come here to show what I have done. As I had to choose, I sewed!

Today I have a project that was made ​​in April, the "Treasure Pocket Pants", to participate in Sewing for boys Sew Along on the Boy, Oh, Boy, Oh boy! blog, but I did not have time to take pictures, so my participation was left out. Still, I dedicated myself to the cause and made pants for the older boy. 

 I used some nearly new jeans of mine that tear right below the tush and some other pair of corduroy pants also almost new and also ripped right below the tush (what about this?!?). I copied the pattern, cut the pieces and set myself to sew. 

 Along the way I realized one of the pieces is incorrect… as I was trying to figure out what went wrong I found an errata for the book on the internet, which would have been so useful if I had found it BEFORE I had cut the pants! But the damage wasn’t that big I just had to make them more narrow, which considering the elegance of my boy was actually a good thing!

Easy linen shirt

O verdadeiro modelo, até faz beicinho / The true model

A 'Easy linen shirt' foi o projecto escolhido pela Stacey do blog Boy, Oh, Boy, Oh Boy para o sew-along de Março. mais um molde do livro Sewing for Boys que é tão simples como bonito . É uma peça essencial do guarda-roupa de todos os rapazinhos: fixe e com imenso espaço para se sentirem livres a brincar. Já anteriormente usei este molde para fazer camisolas de pijama para os rapazes (aqui), em flanela.

 
Desta vez usei malha polar para fazer uma camisola de inverno, mas a malha polar era um pouco grossa e apesar de eu adorar o resultado final não foi tão simples de coser como com a flanela (como sugerem as instruções). Portanto, se quiserem fazer esta peça respeitem as indicações das autoras e vão ver que é mesmo muito fácil!

 Também adicionei um bolso frontal tipo canguru porque o meu filhote adora bolsos e uma vez que a camisola é para tempo frio faz algum sentido ter onde aquecer as mãos. Fiz o tamanho 6/7 e assenta-lhe que nem uma luva.

O tecido de contraste que usei é o Backyard party in grey da collecção Backyard Baby da Patty Sloniger que tem padrões giríssimos para rapaz, cheios de bicharocos. Esta camisa é tão fácil, bonita e prática que já tenho uma data de tecidos reservados para fazer a fazer, mas desta vez em versão verão.

The Easy linen shirt was the parttern that Stacey from Boy, Oh, Boy, Oh Boy selected for the March sew-along. Another project from the book Sewing for Boys that is as easy as it is beautiful. It is a must have in every boys wardrobe: cool and with plenty of room to move. I have made PJ tops for my kids (here) using this same pattern. 

This time I tried some fleece to make a winter sweater, but it is a bit thick and although I love the result it wasn't as easy to sew as when I used light flannel (like the pattern suggested). So it is a really easy shirt to sew but respect the recommended fabrics by the authors.  

I also added a front pocket because I know my son loves pockets and if this is for cold weather it makes sense to have where to warm your hands. This is a size 6/7 and fits him perfectely. 

For contrating fabric I used Backyard party in grey from Backyard Baby by Patty Sloniger which I think is a great fabric for little boys, filled with bugs, snakes and turtles. I already have some light cotton fabric to make my kids some of this shirts for the summer. Such a great pattern!
